The result, debuting this summer in select national markets, is GrouponLive, which will offer discounts for tickets to some (but not all) Live Nation-produced concerts.Įven without GrouponLive, the dizzyingly high ticket prices of last year have already started to come down a bit in 2011. That may be a key reason why concert industry giant Live Nation, which owns Ticketmaster and such San Diego venues as Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre and House of Blues, announced May 9 it is partnering with online top online discount company Groupon. Major acts, including The Eagles, Rihanna and the Jonas Brothers canceled 2010 shows because of low advance sales, while Christina Aguilera’s tour was scratched altogether. Gross ticket revenues in 2010 dropped by 26.2 percent from 2009, while attendance at concerts fell 12.3 percent. This could be a make-or-break summer for the concert industry in San Diego and across the nation, following a steep decline last year.
